About Piano Umbrella
Created by a teacher, for teachers...
With over 20 years of experience in music education - across both primary and secondary classrooms, leading music departments in Kent grammar schools, and teaching internationally in Kenya and the UAE - I’ve seen first-hand what works (and what doesn’t) when it comes to helping young musicians thrive.

Throughout my career, I’ve been passionate about combining structure with creativity, always looking for ways to make music accessible, engaging, and lasting. But I became increasingly frustrated with traditional piano books. They offered a logical progression, but lacked engagement. My pupils often left their lessons motivated but quickly became stuck at home - unsure of rhythms, fingering, or posture. Practice became guesswork.
That’s where Piano Umbrella began...
Piano Umbrella is a digital-first resource created especially for teachers - not students, not apps, but real educators who want to offer their pupils something more engaging and effective than tuition books, without losing the core principles of good technique and musical literacy.
Blending the structure of traditional method books with the interactivity and accessibility of modern tools, Piano Umbrella gives teachers a video-led course that supports learners between lessons, improves sight-reading, encourages correct technique, and builds creativity through composition.

As well as the video course, Piano Umbrella includes printable resources, and teacher branding tools to help independent teachers build a confident, credible digital presence - all designed using my skillset as a graphic designer and grounded in a deep understanding of how children learn.

I’ve taught this course to every new piano student for the past three years and have seen outstanding progress: better notation reading, more confident sight-reading, stronger rhythmic understanding, and students who actually practise because they enjoy it.

If you're a piano teacher looking to modernise your approach, offer more value to your students, and access a toolkit that blends pedagogy with design - welcome to Piano Umbrella.
